The International Maritime Organization has issued a deadline of January 2021 to address cyber risks in existing safety management systems. The shipping industry has been known to be vulnerable to GPS jamming and spoofing attacks. Maersk fell victim to the NotPetya malware in June 2017, which resulted in financial losses of up to USD300m. Ship and crew networks are often not properly segregated and can be compromised via email, social engineering attacks, malware downloads, etc. Some of the systems that might get impacted are as follows:Navigation systems (ECDIS, Radar, GPS, etc.) can be manipulated using jamming.
