Some comedy series are industry giants, well-watched and loved around the world, while some fly under the radar. Despite being funny or having a strong premise, some comedy series don’t get the love or attention they deserve. There are many hidden gems in the world of comedy, and we’ll be looking at some series that are worth watching.

Loudermilk

Who says dealing with addiction can’t be funny? Loudermilk focuses on the life of the titular character and his role as the leader and counselor to a chaotic group of alcoholics in Seattle. Despite his role as a counselor, Sam Loudermilk is always grumpy and seems to rub everyone around him the wrong way.

Loudermilk tackles strong themes of addiction, recovery, and falling off the wagon while still maintaining a light feel. The series’ greatest strength is how relatable some of the characters’ actions are, especially when it’s the wrong choice. While Loudermilk only lasted three seasons, it deserved more and deserves a place as one of the best series of its kind.

Shrinking

Shrinking follows a therapist fresh off his wife’s untimely death at the hands of a drunken driver. Jimmy throws himself into his work whilst still dealing with his inner demons and raising a teenage daughter. With unorthodox therapy methods and brutal honesty with his patients, Jimmy charts a new path that other therapists won’t dare.

Despite similarities to Loudermilk, Shrinking is unique and redefines the term “the blind leading the blind.” It is two seasons in and has a third on the way, so there’s a lot more to explore.

The Ranch

Being a cowboy is a tough, unforgiving, and serious profession, unless you’re dealing with the Iron River Ranch in Garrison, Colorado. The ranch focuses on the Bennett family and the return of the prodigal son, Colt. The Bennett boys spend their day working, and their nights unwinding at a bar owned by none other than ‘Mrs Bennett’.

Throughout its four-season run that featured a mini “That ’70s Show” reunion, the show tackles numerous issues like failure, disappointment, and toxic relationships. The Ranch may be a comedy, but it still showcases the harsh realities of the life of a cowboy, setting the pace before Yellowstone ever came to light.

The Righteous Gemstones

The life of a Televangelist isn’t always all it seems, and The Righteous Gemstones focuses on the things that happen outside the church. The Gemstone Family is the most famous ministerial dynasty with a few secrets of their own. Each member of the family has unique problems that they deal with in the most comedic ways possible.

The series showcases the worst aspects of media worship and the pretense that many famous people have to put on for the public. We also get to see how they cope with the pressures they face, which often manifests itself in some unhealthy ways.

Tacoma FD

Chaos and laughter reign supreme in the fictional Station 24 of the Tacoma Fire Department. We follow the firefighters of the A Shift on their daily adventures while they are on call. From the emergency calls to their leisure activities, there’s always something funny going on. Things get even funnier when the chief’s daughter, who also happens to be the captain’s niece and commissioner’s granddaughter, joins the team.

Tacoma FD is a classic sitcom with every moment providing some laughter. If you’re looking for a good laugh, there aren’t too many shows that match the hilarious hijinks of the A Shift of Station 24. Tacoma FD only lasted four seasons, but it still has enough material to keep you entertained.

Animal Control

Animal control follows the daily exploits of the members of the titular department in Seattle. Every day presents new challenges as the team deals with animals on the loose, while adapting to a new boss and a new team member. The series follows Frank, a former cop who does things his own way, as he gets saddled with the newbie, former pro skater Shred.

With a blend of different interesting characters, each with their unique humor, Animal Control is an underrated gem. There’s plenty of chaos and laughter as the team juggles their professional life with personal entanglements.
