Too Long; Didn't Read

Guys…. Yes, you — the ones that are hiring — can you make up your minds please? Do you want to see resumes or do you not? Do you prefer to see a cover letter or would you rather not? I understand it’s frustrating when you are sieving through hundreds of resumes and you want the one that stands out. I don’t know which world you live in but most of us job seekers have access to just job sites — not exciting connections who hold placards with job openings for us to chose from. I am told our resumes from these sites go through some kind of software that matches words in the resume to the job description. So do I make my resume match your descriptions or do I use my creativity? Either way I can state what I achieved and how I am a great fit for the role — one is robotic n the other is subjective. But, I know your software or recruiters will pick the safer resume cause that’s what they understand!!!

If my resume is boring, I blame you. Don’t ask for the world in one job description. Ask for what you want. Don’t tell me I need to know SDLC for an IT job. That’s a given. You get creative so I can react at your level. You eliminate your software that picks out resumes with buzzwords and I can eliminate them from my showcase.

Some of you love to read cover letters — so I heard and some of you call it redundant. If you are frustrated while looking through hundreds of resumes, do you really care about cover letters? Really?! I find it hard to believe that you do. Why can cover letters not be step 2. If somehow my resume gets lucky and is picked, reach out to me and ask me why I would be a good fit for the role. This way I know you will actually read it. Or better yet, call me!

The ball is really in your court — it’s a pity you guys don’t see it!
