In 1986, the domain names "ibm.com" and "sun.com" were registered, marking a significant milestone in the development of the internet. IBM.com was registered on March 19, 1986, and Sun.com was registered on May 20, 1986. These registrations marked the beginning of the commercialization of the internet, as companies began to recognize the potential of the World Wide Web as a platform for reaching customers and promoting their products and services. Today, these domain names are still in use and are associated with two of the largest technology companies in the world: IBM and Oracle, which acquired Sun Microsystems in 2010.
