As someone in the Web Development industry, I believe that the most exciting technology of the present is JavaScript because of how versatile it is. I can apply its core both on the frontend and backend. Learn more about my thoughts and opinions on JavaScript and my journey in the tech industry via the interview below.
1. What do you do and why do you do it? (tell us your story)
As my daytime job, I work as a web developer. I use VueJs, NodeJs, and MondoDB to create websites for my clients. I also practice coding on my free time to improve my skills. Additionally, I try to keep up to date on the new tools that come into the market to stay updated in the field.
After work, I create content for new developers with tips on how to be successful in their career. I started tutoring back in college when I used to help other students with their programming coursework. After a few years in the web development industry, I realized that now I have accumulated a lot of good experience and tips to help other peoples who are new in the field to avoid mistakes I made earlier on in my career. I like Web Development and I think it's an exciting field to go into. I want to help others too also become interested and successful in this industry. So I decided to create a YouTube channel DevPool where I can give out tips and tricks all how to progress as a web developer.
2. Tell us more about the things you create / write / manage / build!
I create videos and short blog posts to help new self-taught developers progress in the field. There is a vast amount of information online. As a new developer who just started learning, this may seem overwhelming. My blog posts focused on specific achievable goals and objectives to help people to stay focused. For example, I provide three to five examples of small projects people create in their free time to practice specific skills. By doing this, the new developers can stay more focused and have specific target practices.
3. How did you end up on your current career path? Do you like it?
Becoming a Software Developer was the best decision that I have ever made, and it’s all because of the app that I build back in high school.
I used to take extracurricular activities where I would be helping out the IT administrators with setting up the computers in classrooms and imaging mac books.
During one of the classes, I’ve received an assignment to create an iPhone app. So I’ve decided to create a Chuck Norris app where you could list through images, text, and audio. Overall it took me 3 to 4 months to build it and I didn’t even know what && or || meant at the time. I loved the development process and especially the final result.
4. What tech are you most excited or passionate about right now and why?
Currently, I’m using JavaScript as my go-to for both frontend and backend. However, I’m converting my projects into TypeScript because it has some cool features that JavaScripts dosnt’t have like modules, interfaces, and more.
5. What tech are you most worried about right now and why?
Nothing specific comes to mind at this time. Each tech keeps on improving.
6. If we gave you 10 million dollars to invest in something today, what would you invest in and why?
I would invest in the next generation of new developers.
7. What are you currently learning?
About a few months ago, I started to work more closely with the infrastructure. Learned a lot about HashiCorp products and investigating other products at the moment.
8. What’s the best advice you’ve ever given someone?
Start asking for feedback, it will show the supervisor that you are keen to learn, improve. Also as human beings, we may not be the best judgment in our own character. What other people think of us may be very different from what we think of ourselves. So asking other people for advice is always a good way to check all how we appear in other people’s minds and then see if there's any room for improvement.
Asking for feedback from someone that's more experienced is even better because the seniors are more experienced in the field and they have tips they would like to share.
9. What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?
Over years I've received a number of helpful pieces of advice. One keeps on going back to is to stay focused on my goal and to keep on working towards it. There are too many distractions in the world and a lot of new things keep on coming up daily. We should always be clear on our end goal and then plan accordingly our short-term goal and stay focused on working towards those it. Also important to be able to identify what is achievable in a specific amount of time so we wou’t set ourselves for failure.
