Learning web development includes understanding and dealing with terms like CSS, Javascript, and HTML. These are considered the building blocks of the web. Every library or tool is centered around them. A web developer needs to learn about all of these languages well. Most websites are built from these three languages, and that is precisely why every web development course puts emphasis on these languages. Having a strict foundation means knowing programming languages well. Web development courses give you useful lessons on these languages. But before you join the best web development course, it is best to have a heads up about the programming languages. I will start with the very basics as it helps understand matters more easily.

What is the Web?

The internet is a network of computers that receive and send data. Each of these computers has a unique IP address which is used to locate and distinguish them. The web, on the other hand, is a subset of the internet. The web has the web server and the web browser client. These two components make the system work. The client requests a particular kind of data, and the server provides it. API or Application Programming Interface is responsible for this communication between the client and the server.

But when the server shares the data, it is in a more raw form and needs to be arranged and formatted in a way that would be intelligible to the end-users. And this is where web development plays a crucial role.

What is HTML?

HTML or hypertext markup language is a set of detailed instructions that are written on a manuscript meant to be typeset. Therefore it can be a language that creates instructions concerning the type, format, style, and how a web page will look. HTML structures the page into paragraphs, heading, sections, and so on.

What is CSS?

HTML gives you the raw representation, while CSS can make your page look presentable. It gives a proper structure to a web page. CSS or Cascading Style Sheets improves how your page appears. CSS has several styles to pick from that can make your page look attractive and give viewers a pleasant vibe. Besides, it also makes your page easy to view and use.

You can layout elements by positioning them in particular areas of your page. You just have to select the elements and specify what kind of look you are trying to achieve. CSS selectors are the rules which govern this process. You can do several things with CSS selectors. A web development course will give you a complete guide on what can be done and how to do it. For the time being, let us look at the bare minimum functions it does:

  • Set the colour and background
  • Spacing
  • Typeface
  • Margin
  • Padding

It can change the entire look of your page and make it presentable to the eyes and easy to read.

What is JavaScript?

JavaScript is the programming language. Once your markup and design are ready with HTML and CSS, it is time to implement JavaScript. It is a program that creates reactions on your webpage. This helps your page and its individual elements to react in a way when an event takes place. You can program conditions, actions, network requests, calculations, concurrent tasks, and other kinds. You can use Document Object Model API to access the elements. DOM lets you change the reactions just as you would want.

The DOM is very similar to a tree-like representation of a web page. JavaScript adds a kind of intelligent factor to your webpage wherein it can think and act accordingly, similar to how human beings react to certain situations.

I hope you have got a basic idea about these three important elements of programming. You can now attend any web development course and be ahead of most students as you already know the ABC of programming.

Putting HTML, CSS and JavaScript Together

HTML, CSS, and JS are together used to format, design, and program web pages. And when web pages are linked with hyperlinks and their assets like videos, images, and other elements on the server computer, it comes up as a website.

This rendering happens on the front end. The users can successfully see what is being displayed and can interact with it. In comparison, sensitive data like passwords are generated from the back end of the website. This information is not displayed on the front of the web page but exists on the server computer. Every user cannot access this kind of information simply by looking at the webpage.

This is the easiest explanation of HTML, CSS, and JS. This will help you understand the broader picture, but in order to perform well in your exams and interviews, a web development course is a must as it will broaden your horizons and teach everything about web development and design.
